July Update
During the month of July works on El Barranco Resort have continued unabated:
- Starting with a surprise for you all we have managed to gain the necessary permissions to relocate a prime example of the Drago species of tree, unique to the Canaries and just a few other islands such as Maderia. It has come from Tacoronte, in the north of the island, where the soil and vegetation is arguably the richest in the island. It is approximately 4m tall, it’s branches give it a regular circular form and it is estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old – a relative youngster, as the famed Drago tree in Icod de los Vinos is reputed to be 1000 or more years old. This tree is unique to so few locations as when the earth was affected by the last ice age the permafrost of the continents froze the roots of these trees and killed them off. Only in the few place including Tenerife did the permafrost not reach and so the variety was spared from extinction. Now we in El Barranco can delight in our own fantastic example of this magnificent tree. It has been placed in the centre of the site to one side of the bridge, just below swimming pool 3, and it will be planted around with bushes and other lush vegetation.
- In conjunction with the planting of the drago the remaining palms have been put in place stretching in a line in front of Block C right down to our boundary.
- The tiles of pool 1 have been exposed now and shimmer in the sun.
- The construction of the stream which runs down from Pool 1 to the southern boundary of the site has been progressed with just a short final section by pools 5 and 6 needing to be completed.
- The plant boxes have now all been planted up with plants which will flow over the boxes and creep over the timber trellising below.
- The Timber pergolas have been constructed below the ground floor apartments of Blocks A and C.
- The bridge structure which crosses over from one side of the site to the other, just by the Lemon Tree Grove Restaurant have been put in place, the posts which will carry the protective side railings have been fitted, so with a little more time the decking boards will be put in place to bring this element to its conclusion.
- All apartments and villas are now complete with wardrobes, kitchen units, internal doors, and at least one coat of internal paint as well as external paint, so the apartments are now being given a first basic clean, any defects are being identified, recorded and in due course these will be attended to.
- The plumbers and electricians are busy connecting individual and separately metered water and electricity services to apartments and villas which has meant much feeding the services through the basement parking areas and service ducts.
- All apartments and villas to have air conditioning have now had the units fitted in place, awaiting full commissioning closer to the date of handover. All other apartments have the pre-installation pipework and cabling in place sunk unnoticed into the walls and beneath the floors.
- The bar on pool 1 island now has been built and is just awaiting the covering of reed to finish the roof.
- Vast areas of the ground surrounding the pools has been prepared for the laying of the stone paving, a great proportion of which has now been laid.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photos.
Regards, Phil
